ONE person has died in a car collision after a driver mounted the pavement and ploughed into a pedestrian.
Police were called to the scene this afternoon after a Ford Focus drove onto the pavement outside a Co-Op by Deptford Bridge in London.
It crashed into a pedestrian who remains in hospital.
The driver, a man in his 20’s, was taken to a south London hospital by emergency services.
He died there later this afternoon. Police have not yet formally identified the man.
The female pedestrian who was hurt in the incident remains in hospital. Her condition is described as stable, and non-life threatening.
The crash took place outside the Co-Op on Deptford High Street.
The incident caused rush hour chaos as bus routes were delayed and roads were closed.
Roads in the area were reopened shortly before 7pm but delays were still expected, TFL said.
TFL has confirmed disruption continues on local bus routes.
A crime scene remains cordoned off while Metropolitan Police continue to investigate the incident.
Images from the scene show police cars remain parked outside the Co-Op, with a perimeter cordoned off around the store.
The black Ford Focus appears to have mounted the pavement some 10 metres from the entrance of the shop.
The driver door remains open while it appears the air bag was activated in the crash.
Cyclists and pedestrians were pictured still in the area.
